Project’s History

At the end of 2017, a group of neighbors came together with the idea of creating a community garden to be added to the City’s development plan for the Alderbrook Pocket Park. A public survey administered in the area surrounding the Park in April of 2018 confirmed public interest in having a community garden at this location. After that, fiscal sponsorship for the project was secured from the Sustainable Food Center (SFC) and subsequently a garden permit application was filed with the City of Austin PARD and the permit was granted in July of 2018. In September we obtained funding to construct the garden from the Austin Parks Foundation (APF)

The Garden was constructed (Fence, raised beds, in-ground beds, shed, compost area etc.) between November 2018 and March 2018 – all by neighborhood volunteers.  The garden opened on March 30, 2019.
