Project’s History

At the end of 2017, a group of neighbors came together with the idea of creating a community garden to be added to the City’s development plan for the Alderbrook Pocket Park. A public survey administered in the area surrounding the Park in April of 2018 confirmed public interest in having a community garden at this location. After that, fiscal sponsorship for the project was secured from the Sustainable Food Center (SFC) and subsequently a garden permit application was filed with the City of Austin PARD and the permit was granted in July of 2018. In September we obtained funding to construct the garden from the Austin Parks Foundation (APF)

Currently we are on the first phase of garden building (fence construction, soil preparation).  Also, in progress is the effort for securing the water tap installation at the garden site through the City of Austin.  The garden should open to the public with the spring season in March 2019.
